Gayo coffee is an Arabica coffee variety originating from the Gayo highlands, Central Aceh. This type of coffee is a leading commodity from Indonesia. Gayo coffee received Fair Trade Certified from the International Fair Trade Organization on May 27 2010. Apart from that, Gayo coffee also received an IG certificate, namely a Geographical Indication submitted by the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Gayo coffee is the result of coffee plantations that were developed starting in 1908. The coffee commodity grows abundantly in Bener Meriah, Central Aceh and Gayo Lues Regencies.These three areas are at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level and have the largest coffee plantations in Indonesia, covering an area of approximately 81,000 hectares. Gayo coffee has its own uniqueness. The height of the plantation determines different tastes for Gayo coffee. Differences in plantation height affect the taste of Gayo Coffee
